Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Senior Development Engineer on a 6 month rolling contract based in the North West (Hybrid).
Role Summary
Lead development and feasibility of complex grid-connection / transmission / investment projects, from initial feasibility through to front-end design (FEED) / pre-construction stage.
Own the client / customer-interface for connection offers / investment proposals; deliver costed design & option-engineering, regulatory submissions and robust, compliant proposals.
Act as technical and project lead for multiple internal/external stakeholder teams, ensuring delivery readiness, governance, compliance (including CDM, safety, regulatory requirements), and alignment with business and network needs.
Lead and manage feasibility studies and initial grid‐connection (or network investment) proposals — including load / non-load investments, shared-driver or multi-driver investments.
Develop and cost multiple investment/connection options, produce cost–benefit analyses, support regulatory submissions (e.g. for funding or consent) where required.
Prepare and propose detailed delivery programmes, work-scope definitions, and contract scopes for onward delivery.
Undertake stakeholder management: internal teams (Network Development, Asset Operations, Customer Connections, Delivery Project Managers), as well as external stakeholders / customers, land & consents, regulatory bodies, as needed.
Conduct site and condition assessments where necessary; support consenting, type-registration, hazard/risk assessment, innovation reviews and CDM compliance.
Requirements
3–4+ years at National Grid Level 8 equivalent
Strong experience in transmission / grid development (132kV–400kV)
Feasibility, cost estimation, investment options
Substation / overhead line / cable project knowledge
Able to lead early-stage grid-connection or capex development projects
Strong stakeholder + project management
CDM understanding
