Skill set for specialist metal worker Below is a description of ideal skill sets and attributes that would be expected/required for a specialist trimmer to carry out with confidence from day 1. • Use of hand tools – pistol drills, hand drills, pillar-drills. To drill a varied range of holes sizes to job spec from 1.5mm to 7.20mm Must have good speed control and precision placement. Due to tight tolerances, some jobs require the holes to be finished to size by use of a reamer tool. Hand snips/tin snips are used on selected high spec jobs, and this would be an added benefit to a candidate if they were to have experience using these. • Grinding/polishing – User must be efficient in the use of grinding and polishing tools and have experience to working with tight aerospace tolerances and understanding surface finishing.
