A Local Authority in the South of England is seeking an experienced Port Health Officer to support its team on a full-time interim basis for an initial 6–12 month contract, with the possibility of extension.
This is a hands-on role suited to an officer with strong operational port health experience who can hit the ground running and support statutory functions across a busy port environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Delivering Port Health functions in line with relevant legislation and official controls
* Undertaking inspections of imported food, feed and products of non-animal origin
* Conducting vessel, aircraft and port premises inspections
* Carrying out sampling, detentions, and enforcement action where required
* Responding to public health risks and supporting incident management
* Liaising with Border Control Posts, port operators, DEFRA, APHA and other agencies
* Maintaining accurate records and contributing to reporting requirements
Essential Requirements:
* Relevant Environmental Health or Port Health qualification
* Registration with the EHRB (or equivalent)
* Proven experience working in a Port Health Authority or border control setting
* Strong knowledge of imported food controls, public health legislation and enforcement
* Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload
