SEND Teaching Assistant – Primary School (ASC & SEMH Support) Location: Christchurch, Dorset Pay: £95–£100 per day Hours: Full-Time, Term Time Only Start Date: September 2026 Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs? A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Christchurch is seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, communication difficulties and additional learning needs within a mainstream primary school environment. This position would particularly suit graduates in Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies, Criminology, Sociology, Health & Social Care, or related subjects who are looking to gain valuable school-based experience before progressing into teaching, educational psychology, speech and language therapy, counselling or other child-focused professions. About the Role As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will: Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups Assist children with ASC, SEMH and additional learning needs to access the curriculum Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and social development Work alongside teachers and the SENDCO to implement personalised support strategies Adapt activities to meet individual learning needs Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, independence and engagement Create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment The Ideal Candidate We welcome applications from experienced Teaching Assistants and graduates who have: A genuine passion for supporting children and young people An interest in SEND, education or child development Strong communication and interpersonal skills A patient, resilient and proactive approach The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff Previous experience working with children or young people (desirable but not essential) Why Join This School?
