Job Description

Location: Poole, Dorset Start Date: September 2026 Hours: Full Time, Term Time Only Pay: £95–£105 per day (dependent on experience) Axcis Education is working in partnership with a highly regarded specialist SEND school in Poole that is seeking experienced Teaching Assistants and SEMH Specialists to join its dedicated team from September 2026. This well-resourced and supportive school caters for primary-aged pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) relating to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, with many pupils also presenting with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The school provides a nurturing, structured environment where pupils are supported both academically and emotionally to achieve positive outcomes. The Role Supporting pupils with SEMH and ASC needs on a 1:1 and small group basis Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced barriers to learning Supporting emotional regulation and implementing positive behaviour strategies Acting as a mentor and role model throughout the school day Working closely with teachers, therapists and wider support staff Helping pupils access learning and achieve their individual targets Managing and de-escalating challenging situations in a calm and professional manner The Ideal Candidate Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker or SEMH Specialist Strong understanding of SEMH, ASC and associated behavioural needs Confident supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour Resilient, patient and emotionally intelligent Able to build strong relationships and maintain professional boundaries Passionate about supporting vulnerable children and young people to succeed GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (essential) Relevant qualifications or degree-level education (desirable) What the School Offers A highly supportive and welcoming staff team Excellent training and professional development opportunities Strong leadership and a collaborative working environment The opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of children with additional needs Potential for long-term and permanent opportunities If you are an experienced Teaching Assistant or SEMH professional looking for a rewarding new challenge from September, we would love to hear from you.
