Location: Surrey Council Contract: 6 Months IR35: Inside Rate: Open – please apply with your expected day rate About the Role Surrey Pension Fund is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to provide high‑level financial leadership during a critical period. This is a hands‑on, delivery‑focused assignment where you will take full operational ownership of fund accounting, reporting, financial controls, budgeting and senior stakeholder engagement. You will play a key role in ensuring business‑as‑usual continuity while supporting the year‑end cycle. This position is ideal for a seasoned contractor with strong LGPS / public sector pensions finance experience. Key Responsibilities You will lead and deliver across core areas including: * Financial Controls & Governance – Maintain robust reconciliations, compliance frameworks, risk management and financial controls. * Budgeting & Forecasting – Manage the Surrey Pension Team budget and support the development of Fund financial forecasts. * Cashflow & Banking Operations – Oversee banking activity, income, allocations and performance KPIs. * Pension Fund Accounts & Annual Report – Lead the preparation of accurate, audit‑ready accounts and reporting. * Stakeholder Reporting & Insight – Produce high‑quality financial reports and present to Committees, Boards and senior leadership teams. * Team Leadership – Line manage and support a small finance team, ensuring effective prioritisation and delivery. * Deputising Responsibilities – Act as deputy for the Head of Pensions – Resources when required. Essential Experience We're looking for a contractor able to hit the ground running with minimal onboarding: * Fully qualified accountant – ACA / ACCA / CIPFA * Strong experience within LGPS or public sector finance * Proven ability to manage complex pension fund operations and reporting * Confident working in a fast‑paced, delivery‑focused environment
